What's wrong with being a "core gamer"? I've been one all my life!

I know what you mean, but the co-op play is really, really good. Helldivers is fun with PUGs too, so don't let it put you off.

Don't get me wrong though, I agree, some of the objectives are practically impossible solo on harder settings and it can be really annoying when you find it out the hard way. At least you'll earn influence and upgrades regardless.

LOL! Suppose I'd probably better buy one now.

True, hadn't thought of that.

Yeah, N4G has horribly compressed it!

(and it's hideous :P )

I love how HellDivers feels like Sci-Fi Magicka, but with more tactics and cooperative play. Impressed by how much scope there is to tinker with different loadouts (or tanks!).

Seen a few people dismiss it as 'just a dual-stick shooter' and get kinda annoyed. It's really pushing what we should expect from the subgenre.

That is... blue. Not surprised I hadn't heard of it, can't be many people who say "I'd like an Xbox 360, if only it was blue."

I wouldn't mind if they stepped towards gaming long enough to make HL2 Episode 3. :P

No-one can blame you, it's pretty terrifying stuff when you consider the money invoved! TBH I didn't even attempt building for years, until I lived with a housemate who showed me the ropes and took the fear out of it.

"The fact I've had to talk a friend of mine through whether a Steam Machine would be worth a purchase specs-wise is a failure on Valve's part to make these machines the consumer-friendly devices they're meant to be."

Yup. Didn't Valve once promise that there would just be three options to make things at-a-glance? They should have done that. SteamOS is free so there's nothing stopping all these OEMs selling them, but Steam should only be pushing a...

Spot on. PC gaming is more accessible than ever (thanks to automatic driver update tools, convenient clients like Steam etc), but the last hurdle for most people is actually buying or building the rig itself.

Yes, I know it's actually pretty easy, but I've been into personal computing since the Amiga. For most it's daunting and super intimidating.

Steam Machines were supposed to help, but they've completely cocked it up. 15 devices, all with s...

It's not terrible - Dealspwn use the full range of the review scale so a 5 means that a game is might be worth considering if you're a huge fan of the genre (i.e. average) - but I totally agree about "forget about a week later!" It's so bland.

Aww, diddums.

Seriously, though, if you buy and enjoy a game then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. More power to ya.

The fact that it's just a testing facility really gets me. I don't necessarily mind just making coasters/riding them/destroying stuff, but none of it feels consequential, none of it really matters. You'll never see crowds of people enjoying your machines, the destruction buildings are just purpose-built targets, and for me it just feels... off, somehow.

High hopes, low expectations. Gonna make a decision once the season is complete, but this is a great start!

Was kinda worried that Capcom would go off the rails with Rev2, because the original Revelations was as good as it was because of the 3DS' hardware and input limitations, which forced the more old-school gameplay. At least they seem to be keeping themselves restrained.

Heh, more like a three-concept game! :P

Still, agreed. It's a weird middle ground, nowhere near fleshed out enough to feel like a full game, but also a bit diffuse and unfocused to be a smaller download. Weird one.

And Games With Gold material for sure.

You're right on all counts. Fixing it doesn't make it right, though ODST will be fun if and when it finally arrives. There's no excuse for broken games.

"And the biggest test is yet to come. America will get home from work in a few hours and get involved, stressing the servers and really putting the new patch through its paces. Will it hold, or will it buckle and break under the load as it has done so many times?"

I fear the jinxing has ...

Truly one of the best consoles ever - due to one of the best games libraries ever. Something for absolutely everyone.

No way I'm buying the sequel. Feel I've got the value out of D1 now I've ground at it for hours, but fool me twice, shame on me.

TBH I doubt that Steam Machines are gonna take off. Would love to be wrong, but the waters have been muddied so badly, and the situation is so confusing, that they're not going to make a splash.

Thing is, PC gaming is already more accessible than ever, even without Steam machines. Hopefully Win10 will actually make things even easier for new users.
